My favorite art teacher was Mr. Swallow, fifth grade. From him, I remember sketching and learning colors. Also under his tutelage I sculpted a fabulous (read horrible) looking vase that turned into a fluted bowl. It was my first and last foray into pottery.
I suppose it's the eternal optimist in me that makes me think that if I just tried again, that I could do better. Despite the incredibly frustrating experience, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Many, many years later, I've found that I love the expressiveness I feel when I draw. It's very satisfying to put thoughts on paper in the form of shape and color. Currently I work with oil pastels because I love the way they feel. It's a very tactile experience. You should try it sometime.
